Join Our Team
This team was started by the 8 children (4 by blood and 4 by marriage) of John and Edith Houghton. John turned 80 this summer. After a career as a Baptist minister, moonlighting as a teacher, volunteering to start a local Habitat for Humanity Chapter, being elected twice to the county Board of Supervisors, serving on the Board of Trustees at the University of Richmond, countless hours of gardening, hunting and fishing, woodworking, and most importantly, loving his family, he began exhibiting symptoms in 2005. At this point, he is always forgetful; he is routinely confused and sometimes anxious. Mom and he still live at home where, in caring for him, she continues to exhibit the love and grace that have characterized each day of her life.
We walk because it gives us something we can do. We walk so that, some day, this thief, this demon, will be conquered once and for all and families will be spared this tragic journey. We walk in love, for each other and for John and Edith.
Join our team and get on the MOVE to end Alzheimer's! The Alzheimer's Association Memory WalkŪ is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's disease. The money we raise will go toward research to treat and prevent Alzheimer's, and programs to improve the lives of millions of Americans.
